In keeping with a still youngish tradition, Hamburg and Bremen take turns to host a New Year’s Day Singing. Bremen is next and pleased to invite you to an informal All-Day-Singing.

When: Saturday, January 6, 2024. The door opens at 10:00 a.m., we start singing at 10:30 and we’ll be done by 4:30 p.m.

Where: in the building of the Anthroposophical Society Bremen, Freiligrathstraße 15, 28211 Bremen.

Drinks (coffee, tea and water) will be provided and a dinner on the ground is planned. How varied it will be depends on what everyone brings. 🙂

We are looking forward to a day full of singing and chatting.

Information added on 8.12.2023:
By now, we as a group are well advanced in our preparations and it is now time to share some more details with you.
Location accessibility:
By car: simply enter the address in your navi; there are plenty of free parking spaces directly at the venue.
By public transport: from Bremen Main Station take bus line 24 in the direction of Neue Vahr Nord, stop Heinrich Hertz Straße. From there it is about a 10-minute walk to the venue, google-maps will show you the way.
Alternative from Bremen Main Station is tram line 1 towards Mahndorf, stop Kurfürstenallee; or tram line 4 towards Lilienthal, stop Friedhofstraße. From both stops it’s about 15 minutes on foot.

Dinner on the grounds: we look forward to anything you can bring. Possibilities to heat something are very limited, unfortunately we are not allowed to use the venue’s kitchen. Coffee and tea will be available. Slow-cookers are no problem, and we will try to arrange a separate hotplate for pans. If you have any questions or doubts about what to bring: please contact Ulla.

Social: after the end of the all-day, we can go to restaurant El Mariachi from around 17:00; we have reserved space here. This restaurant is located near the venue and can be reached on foot. Here you´ll find the link to the restaurant: https://elmariachi-bremen.de
Finally: if you have not yet signed up as a participant, now is the time to do so. This will help us plan accordingly.
Our anticipation for this day grows steadily.

From January (12.1.2023) we have a new location for our weekly singing evening: we may use the building of the Anthroposophical Society. Address: Freiligrathstraße 15, Bremen-Schwachhausen.

Occasionally we will also sing in the Fleetkirche in Bremen-Walle. Check the where-and-when page to see where we can be found on which date.

In 2012, 2 former Bremen co-singers, Daniela Witt and Gunnar Heite, made a documentary about the early years of Sacred Harp Bremen. This film gives a wonderful picture of how the Sacred Harp tradition landed in Germany and how the group in Bremen has come into being and grown since that time.

Due to illness of the makers, this documentary has been a long time coming, but now the full version is finally available on Youtube. The film is German spoken and has English subtitles. See the link below:
